The title of this organization shall be One Hood. One Hood will be a bridge for resolving gang and neighborhood disputes through dialogue and negotiation within the prison and by extension on the streets as the culture of prison is increasingly influencing the culture of the streets. One Hood will serve to unite neighborhoods, end gang warfare and make men responsible defenders of their neighborhoods. One Hood will develop new and innovative concepts to address gang and neighborhood violence using conflict resolution initiatives.
One Hood Recognizes That:
a.) a majority of gang and senseless neighborhood violence stems from the inability of brothas to communicate with one another and the absence of neighborhood mediators willing to serve as bridges to different neighborhoods and gang members.
b.) The traditional method of more police, more prison time and more prisons is a proven failure and has failed the Black and Latino community miserably and new and innovative concepts must be developed by the people and communities most affected by gang and neighborhood violence.
c.) The individuals most suited/qualified to solve and address the violence in our neighborhoods are the ones who were formerly a part of the destructive lifestyles that contributed to the violence.
One Hood Will:
a.) Serve as a bridge to resolve gang and neighborhood beefs (disputes).
b.) Encourage and develop programs to increase and build dialogue and communication between different neighborhoods and gangs.
c.) Develop and advocate a code of ethics and value systems that ex-gang members and prisoners can adopt that encourages them to respect and defend their hoods as well as respecting and protecting each other.
d.) Seek to dissolve all gangs and neighborhood boundaries responsible for violence and beefs between different gangs and neighborhoods.
e.) Encourage and demand respect for community elders and children.
f.) Encourage community activists, media outlets and religious institutions to support One Hood's goals and objectives and support peace initiatives in the neighborhoods.
g.) Work with outside activists and organizations interested and willing to support One Hood's agenda.
h.) Publish a newsletter to outline One Hoods's agenda.
i.) Encourage programs for ex-offenders and ex-gang members, including parole support and employment for mediators.
j.) Work to establish outside Support/Peace Committees to be the bridge between imprisoned mediators and mediators on the street.
One Hood will utilize the “Protocols of Peace” initiative established by Stanley “Tookie” Williams as its platform and starting point for peace.
